Emotions Lose Power Under Scrutiny
Strong emotions infiltrate our minds and nudge us towards decisions that aren't aligned with our best interests. Passive-aggressive comments don't build relationships and humble brags make us appear starved for attention. Our short temper or anger lead us to say things we regret. If we scrutinize our emotions and analyze where they come from, we will realize they may not be justified.
Why am I being impatient? Why am I not happy for the success of someone else? Why do I desire to have the job or career of others I see on the internet? Why am I not content?
These questions can be answered if we think hard enough, if we think long enough, if we think deep enough. More realistically, we won't answer these questions, at least not at first. But by entertaining them we may start to understand ourselves better. We may discover, after scrutiny, that those undesirable emotions lose their significance and power over us.
