Bounce Back or Bounce Backwards?

What do you do when you break a positive habit? There are primarily two options. Option 1 is to get back on the horse and pick up where you left off; option 2 is to intend to restart your habit but never actually do it. How often do we break a good habit and let it slip through our fingers? Instead of practicing resilience we give in to laziness and apathy.

I broke my streak of writing daily. I wrote for 10 days in a row from December 1 to December 10; today (December 14) is my first post since the 10th. I contemplated whether to continue writing or to give it up. The thought of not worrying about writing was enticing, but then I remembered some of the most meaningful lyrics that I've ever heard in a song, a couple of bars I've returned to many times in my life.

We all get distracted, the question is
Would you bounce back or bounce backwards?
Would you not know how to act or take action?
-Kendrick Lamar in Growing Apart (To Get Closer)

We all drift away from our ideal self. What's tragic is not the drifting but the failure to correct course and aim towards the ideal again.

Next time you get distracted, will you bounce back or bounce backwards?
